How it Works

Gather 11 other friends, 2 vans, 2 volunteers and get ready for a scenic, challenging adventure! The Hells Canyon Relay runs through the day and night as teams complete 24 (walk) to 36 (runners) for the traditional relay race, with an elite course of 12 runners for 48 legs. The legs will be continuous varying in length from 2.5 - 8.7 miles on some of the most diverse terrain Oregon can muster on one of the most scenic Oregon Byways in Eastern Oregon.

Elite Running Teams (10-12 runners) – DO YOU DARE?
Elite Running teams consist of 10-12, runners with each runner completing at least 4 legs over 285.6 miles from Pioneer Park, La Grande to the Finish Line at the park in La Grande, OR. Run teams need to qualify for an average 6 minute mile in order to complete the course in 36 hours. Any team that runs over 36 hours will be subject to course sweeping and will be marked as DNC.

Solo Runner (only) – DO YOU DARE TOO?
Solo runner/s must be self-sufficient with their support team. Smith Rock Race Group LLC will encourage the solo runner to start a day earlier in order to finish on time. Contact Christopher Douglass at: chris@smithrockrace.com for details and knowledge from two solo runners who ran the Cascade Lakes Relay in 2010.
